Week 3 for our Mountaire Park Barracudas (pre-holiday crunch time)
Swim Team Friends,
We hope you and your families had a wonderful weekend! And to those of you that spent Saturday night with us at the Family Fun Night Potluck & Pep Rally, thank you. We had THE. BEST. TIME. We love seeing your robot rover photo posts from the evening and appreciate your food and drink contributions. But most importantly, we are grateful for the “heart” that this team has. Let’s keep our wonderful team spirit going as we head into week 3. Here’s what you can look forward to:
- Practice*: (3-days this week…shorter week takes into consideration last day of school celebrations and Memorial Day holiday travel)
- Monday,
May 20th through Wednesday, May 22nd:
- 3:30 PM-4:00 PM 6&U
- 4:00 PM-4:45 PM 7-8
- 5:00 PM-6:00 PM 9&UP
- Instruction continues to focus on specific strokes and techniques
- Time trials are mostly complete; we will gather times from the few remaining swimmers this week
- Want the full practice schedule for the whole season? Click here.
- Team t-shirts and hoodies are in! Team Reps will pass these out to swimmers at practices starting Tuesday!
*Parents, if you find that your child's designated afternoon swim practice time overlaps with their school or after-school activities, we are happy to accommodate your child's attendance at the next earliest practice time until the school year ends. We also understand that this time of year can present scheduling challenges. We ask that your swimmer(s) attend as many swim practices as possible – we want to ensure they are confident going into our 1st meet.
Your to do items:
- DEADLINE 5/22: Declare your swimmer(s) for 1st meet against Vermack (AKA tell us if your swimmer(s) is swimming in a meet). To do this…click here. Scroll down to the meet name (1st Swim Meet: HOME against Vermack)>click the green button tagged “RSVP open”, this opens a window with your swimmer names, click “edit”, select the drop-down option for each of your swimmers, and hit “save”. DONE!
- This is important, if your swimmer is not declared by the 5/22 deadline, your swimmer will not be able to participate in the 1st meet
- DEADLINE 5/23: Sign-up for meet 1 concessions (read more below)
- DEADLINE 5/23: Sign up for all four of your volunteer spots throughout the season. Yes, all four. Scroll down to the event name>click the green button tagged “Job signup”, this opens a window with parent names, click “sign up for jobs”, click the button next to the job you wish to sign up for, and hit “save assignments”. DONE! To avoid many emails and phone calls after May 23rd, please sign up for all four slots. (read more below)
- DEADLINE 5/24: RSVP for the post-home meet celebration at Abuelo’s Mexican Kitchen and Cantina. To do this…click here. Scroll down to find the event>click the green button tagged “RSVP open”, this opens a window with the names of everyone in your family (or everyone that you loaded into your profile), click “edit”, select the names for each family member attending, and hit “save”. DONE!
- Order a team suit(s) for your athlete(s). We announced back in March that our team has a brand-new suit design this year (it is not black). Please be sure your swimmer is fitted and has the suit in hand prior to our first meet on May 28th.
Side notes on meet 1 concessions:
- Our 1st meet is 9 days away and it’s at home therefore it’s now time to sign-up for concessions. Game on guys!
- A friendly reminder that concessions is one of our biggest fundraisers for the team, this effort needs all our team’s helping hands
- YOUR NEXT STEP: click on the “Home Meet 1: Concession Sign-Up” link on the “Meets and Events RSVP” page of the website
- Each family needs to sign-up for one item – NEW THIS YEAR! Our concessions team has categorized items according to recommended store location and cost. What this means for you is no more trying to figure out where to buy the item and no more wondering if your contribution is in line monetarily with everyone else
- PLEASE – read the item you signed up for very carefully and purchase exactly what is requested (size, brand, quantity). Trust us…our concessions team knows what they are doing. Don’t mess with them! :-)
- Your concessions RSVP is due by Thursday, May 23rd
- Your concession items must be brought to the pool on Tuesday, May 28th between 8:30 AM – 11:00 AM (and placed on the table near the microwave in the upper pavilion). THIS IS CRITICAL. Do not deliver your item before 8:30 AM or after 11:00 AM. Our meet is the evening of May 28th…the concessions team must receive your items within that time frame to prepare properly for the meet. Like we said above, don’t mess with the concessions team :-)
- If there is an exception to the delivery time on an item, it will be clearly marked on the sign-up page
- When dropping off, please be sure your item is marked with your name so that we can check you off
- Here’s a question you might have: “What if my child is not swimming in the meet, do I still need to bring an item?” Yes please.
Side note on meet 1 volunteer jobs:
- There is a total of 8 open volunteer jobs for meet 1. Please fill these positions:
