Good news, good news, medium news, good news (oh...and some really critical deadlines)
Swim Team Friends,
Soooo...we have good news, good news, medium news and good news. We always like to start with the good news. You guys rocked it last night at the meet against Riverside. WE should feel so proud of our efforts and teamwork - we mean this for actions we saw in the water and outside of the water. If you are new to our team this year, it's important to point out that we adore the Riverside team and they are our biggest rivals (think like...Auburn and Alabama, Florida and Georgia, South Carolina and Clemson...you get the picture). So last night it was the "Iron Meet" between Mountaire and Riverside. You guys SHOWED UP and you WENT ALL OUT. And you know what, that is what we are going to focus on...the "showing up" and the "going all out".
In the end though (here’s the “medium” news), someone always wins and this time folks it wasn't the Barracudas. The final score was Riverside 398 to Mountaire 382. Wow. A 16-point difference - so tight we had ASA officials checking everything over. Here’s the thing…that news we call "medium" because you know, in the grand scheme of life, it is a "blip of a bummer". We are grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in last night's meet, to have athletes that are healthy and can physically perform, to have parents/guardians and extended family members and friends that are present and supportive, and to have coaches that believe in us not matter what. So, for all these reasons and more, WE WON. We really did.
And if that doesn't warm your heart, this morning, with your help, we hosted our 2nd annual fundraiser for Swim Across America – an organization that raises money to fund lifesaving cancer research and clinical trials. We had the best time with you! And we will have more good news to share with you shortly once all the donations have been counted. We also have some really awesome photos so stay tuned.
Okay, so we've addressed "good news", "good news" and "medium news"...now let's focus on more "good news" and some big deadlines…game on guys!
- HAPPENING TODAY, 6/5 from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM is a swim clinic focused on dives and streamlining. This clinic is geared towards swimmers in all age groups. The swim team will have 2 lanes reserved for this clinic while the rest of the pool is open to the public. This clinic is free to attend – all you need to do is show up.
- DEADLINE TODAY (6/5) – You must declare your swimmer(s) TODAY by 5:00 PM for the 3rd swim meet on Tuesday, June 11th. If we do not have a declaration by 5:00 PM today, your swimmer(s) will not be able to participate in Tuesday’s meeting. Also, an important point on meet declarations – even if you are not planning to swim, you must declare your swimmer(s). Everyone must declare no matter if “yes” or no matter if “no”.
- Not sure how to declare? Here’s a quick tutorial: click herehttps://mountairebarracudas.swimtopia.com/swim_meets >scroll down to the title of the meet you are declaring for and click on the green button that says “Meet Entry”>a window will pop up with your swimmer(s) names> pull down the drop box options for each swimmer to let us know if they are coming or not> then click save. YOU. ARE. DONE.
- DEADLINE 6/10: Home Meet 2: Concession Sign-Up - That's right folks, it's time to tag your name against a concession item to donate for our next home meet, which is Tuesday, June 11th.
- YOUR NEXT STEP: click on the “Home Meet 2: Concession Sign-Up” link on the “Meets and Events RSVP” page of the website
- Each family needs to sign-up for one item. Our concessions team has categorized items according to recommended store location and cost. What this means for you is no more trying to figure out where to buy the item and no more wondering if your contribution is in line monetarily with everyone else
- PLEASE – read the item you signed up for very carefully and purchase exactly what is requested (size, brand, quantity). Trust us…our concessions team knows what they are doing. Don’t mess with them! :-)
- Your concessions RSVP is due by Monday, June 10th
- Your concession items must be brought to the pool on Tuesday, June 11th between 8:30 AM – 11:00 AM (and placed on the table near the microwave in the upper pavilion). THIS IS CRITICAL. Do not deliver your item before 8:30 AM or after 11:00 AM. Our meet is the evening of June 11th …the concessions team must receive your items within that time frame to prepare properly for the meet. Like we said above, don’t mess with the concessions team :-)
- If there is an exception to the delivery time on an item, it will be clearly marked on the sign-up page
- When dropping off, please be sure your item is marked with your name so that we can check you off
- Here’s a question you might have: “What if my child is not swimming in the meet, do I still need to bring an item?” Yes please.
- SLICED WATERMELON AND PASTA SALAD WERE A HUGE HIT AT OUR LAST HOME MEET. Just sayin!
- DEADLINE 6/10: RSVP for the post-home meet celebration at Hearth Pizza Tavern (PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS A VENUE CHANGE). To do this…click here. Scroll down to find the event>click the green button tagged “RSVP open”, this opens a window with the names of everyone in your family (or everyone that you loaded into your profile), click “edit”, select the names for each family member attending, and hit “save”. DONE!
Next up on deck:
- Tuesday, June 11th 4:30 PM athlete and volunteer shift 1 arrival: HOME meet against Wynterhall
- Tuesday, June 11th: Post-home meet celebration at Hearth Pizza Tavern (right after the meet)
